I had a full weekend! On Friday we went to the Louvre and I was amazed at the size and beauty of the place! I kept calling it a house and kept getting laughed at because that is obviously an understatment. I saw the Mona Lisa, and many other famous works of art. I will definitely be going back for more in weeks to come! On Saturday I went to thr Moulin Rouge! I have always wanted to go there it was a dream come true! It was so cool and really fancy, it is a big tourist attraction now and they still do dinner theater but it is about 100 Euros for a show and even more for dinner so I just took some pictures and went on my way! On the way home we stopped at the Arc de Triumph, I realized that you are allowed to go on top of it! I had no idea and that was my second time visiting that monument! I will definitely have to try that sometime soon. On Sunday we woke up early and took the metro and a train to Versailles! We had to leave the city of Paris and travel into the country for this. I really liked the suburbs, they are way less crowded and hectic, it was so beautiful out there. We stumbled upon a farmers market while walking from the train station to Versailles and stopped for a crepe. When we finally got to the palace it was overwhelming. There were so many people and so much to look at. The palace is so big you can't take it all in with one look, you actually have to turn your head to see the whole thing! We got in the ticket line which happened to be the shortest and then found out that out student id cards got us in free! We were not about to stand in the 2 hr line to get into the palace so we went to the gardens first. We got a student discount on entry to the gardens and our id cards got us into Marie Antionettes cottages for free! The whole trip to Versailles cost me less than 10 Euros which is amazing considering the ticket into the palace alone cost about 20 Euros! The gardens were amazing and breath taking all at the same time, everything was so well taken care of and perfectly trimmed. The flowers were so colorful and vibrant and the bushes were trimmed into geometric shapes. As we kept walking we came upon a gigantic canal that looked more like a lake to me. People were ridding bikes, boating, and having picnics under the trees. It was so picturesque. There were also little restaraunts, and cafes within the garden. We kept walking, and came upon a forest, through that we saw the Grand Trianon and the Petit Trianon. These two amazing buildings were gifts to Marie Antionette from her husband Louis XIV. I guess a queen has everything so the only way to impress her is to give her another building! We toured these buildings and they were just as lush as the palace itself. When we continued on the forest path we came upon Marie Antionette's cottage which turned out to be about 5 cottages. It looked like a little village! They were all so cute and looked like they came straight out of Alice in Wonderland. They had thatched roofs, and a pond with swans. It was like stepping into a fairy tale! We couldn't tour these because they were too fragile but they were amazing to look at. The gardens were so colorful and artsy! We walked around the gardens for 4hrs and them got in line for the main palace. The line only took 35min and once we got in the pushing a shoving never stopped. I took many pictures of all of the royally decorated rooms and paintings. The walls were made of designed velvet! I can never imagine anyone living in a place so beautiful or large. By th time we toured every room that was open to the public we were exhausted. We walked back to the train and I fell asleep all the way back into the city. It was a wonderful and exhausting day :)
There was a starbucks right accross the street from the Moulin Rouge!
